They’re far from Montreal, really far. Four to five hours South depending on where you’re headed. That basically means a 2-day weekend trip is out of the question. Well, except for this 2-day weekend; Slide and Hunter had to be bagged, it was a necessity. I think. We added Tremper Mountain just to make sure the drive was worth it.
Anyways, the Catskills are not as impressive as their brother and sister ranges up north, but their warmer weather makes them a fine late Fall and early Spring hiking destination, when the snow, ice and mud are still prevalent in the ‘Dacks, Greens and Whites.
The trailhead is on New York State Route 214 between Lanesville and Tannersville.

The trailhead is on West Branch Rd (or Oliverea Rd, same road) about 10 miles south of New York State Route 28 in Big Indian.

This mountain is on the Adirondacks-Catskills Fire Tower list. The trailhead is on Old State Route 28 in Mount Pleasant, NY. Cross from the 28 to the Old 28 in Phoenicia or Mount Tremper, the trailhead is right in between.
